POADA MEMBER NEWS

POADA IS BACK!!!
We are very pleased to announce that the Past Officers & Directors Association (POADA) is alive and kicking! At the July Meeting of the LAJCC Board of Directors, the Board approved POADA members as an official membership class of the LAJCC. In addition, the Board approved the Committee of Ten as a recognized standing committee of the LAJCC. Click here to read the newly approved language for POADA from the LAJCC Policies & Procedures.

We are all very excited about the LAJCC’s commitment to our past leaders. There are many obvious opportunities for the LAJCC to embrace and utilize the expertise of the POADA members (i.e. serving on Advisory boards; lending advice and guidance on issues of the past, present and future; speaking at retreats and/or events; helping the organization maintain a steady course in light of our great history, etc.).

In addition, we POADAns always enjoy seeing and catching up with each other and especially reminiscing about the “old days”.

There is no membership fee for POADA members, however, we may ask for minimal contributions at some events to cover costs.

In addition to other on-going activities, POADA will continue to gather annually for lunch, hold a Spring Fling social event, and possibly organize a Holiday Gathering.

The LAJCC is also pleased to announce that plans are underway for the return of the Award of Merit Event in Spring of 2007. They have asked for POADA's help and participation in organizing this fantastic and historic event.

LAJCC Immediate Past Chair, Michele Garcia, is the POADA Board liaison. Please contact her with any questions you may have at mbgarcia23@yahoo.com.

Help Long Lost POADAns
We need your updated information! We are trying to build an accurate database of all our POADANs so we can update you on upcoming events. The last printed directory was published in 1996, so if you have moved, changed jobs, or have any new contact information, please send your updates to Jean Grant at the LAJCC offices at jgrant@LAJCC.org or call her at (213) 989-2146. In addition, if you know of any “missing” POADAns, please send their new contact information to us as well.

Summer Fling – Hawaiian Style!
POADA members gathered at the home of Catherine & Orest Bodnar on Saturday, July 23rd, for the annual Spring Fling (OK, it really was Summer!). Guests enjoyed Mai Tais, Pina Coladas, and some very tasty Hawaiian food. Thanks to the Bodnars for hosting the event again this year at their beautiful home in Pacific Palisades, and thanks to all POADAns, Staff, and current Board members who attended. A very special “thank you” to those who supplied us with updated contact info for some of our “missing” POADAns.

Congratulations, Vivian!!!
At the August 2, 2005, Annual Meeting of the LAJCC, retiring Board Member Vivian Campbell was recognized with the POADA Distinguished Service Award. In the tradition of years past, Vivian was presented with a beautiful clock and will be recommended for appointment to the Committee of Ten.

Vivian has been an active member of the LAJCC having served in leadership roles on the Board for the past eight years as a Director, Vice President, President, and Immediate Past Chair. She has also served with distinction as Operations Chair for three years with the LAWSG, Chair of LAWSG Cheerleading for two years, Chair of the Foster Family Picnic, and Founder & Chair of Options House.

In addition, she has literally given thousands of hours to the LAJCC via Big Brothers Amigos, Fred Jordan Mission, Kool Kids, Kid Skates, and one of her most favorite volunteer opportunities, our elementary school outreach trips to Disneyland.

We welcome Vivian to our POADA family!
