Both
the Urban Youth Golf Program and Los Angeles Junior Golf Program
serve youth in the greater Los Angeles area, teaching the game of
golf and life lessons inherent to the game, including character,
honesty, rules, etiquette, and tradition.
The Urban Youth Golf Program began in 1989 as part
of the LPGA Foundation's initiative to bring golf to all children,
especially those not likely to be otherwise given the opportunity.
Under the management of the Los Angeles Junior Chamber of Commerce
since 1999, the program now provides professional instruction, fitted
equipment, affordable course & range access, life skills and
opportunities to more than 1400 underserved youth in the Los Angeles
area each year.
The L.A. County Junior Golf Program began in 2001
to provide today’s youth with an opportunity to experience
the game of a lifetime. It is committed to creating and maintaining
a golf program geared to introducing youngsters to County golf facilities
and exposing them to valuable life skills. It has over 1100 participants
and in 2006 created the Los Angeles County Junior Golf Championship
Series.
