Foster Family Picnic
 
 

Q: What is it?
A: Held in partnership with the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services, each year 1,000 foster children and parentsgather for a day of food, fun, games, sports, crafts, celebrity guests and other picnic activities. The goal of the picnic is to provide recognition and thanks to the many families who give their hearts, homes and time in order to provide a better future for those who so deservingly need their help.

Q: What can volunteers expect to do?
A: Volunteers can assist in the following areas:

ARTS AND CRAFTS
Display your artistic talent in this creative area. Interact and have fun. Face Painting - Coloring - Finger Painting

ENTERTAINMENT
Kids are the main attraction here. Help support them by cheering and applauding. Help fill out certificates to present to them after their "Star" performance. Help with raffles (calling names and distributing prizes). We have some fabulous giveaways! Talent Show - Raffle drawings

EXHIBITS
Help maintain order, flow of traffic and a nice even tempo as kids await their turn. Jump Houses - Obstacle Course - Arcade Games- Petting Zoo

FOOD AND BEVERAGE
Help serve freshly popped popcorn, cool snow cones or sweet cotton candy. Help distribute water throughout the park. Popcorn Cart - Snow Cone Cart - Beverage Areas - Cotton Candy

GAMES
Muster up the troops to work off the food with some aerobic running and endurance games!

HOT DOGS
You are already a kid's best friend in this area. You can take a taste test now and then to maintain quality control.

OPERATIONS
Post signage, rope and stake areas, create balloon arches and create a festive fun atmosphere.

Q: How many volunteers are needed?
A: Typically, between 100 and 200 volunteers are needed during the picnic and 5-10 on the committee.

Q: What kind of time commitment is expected?
A: Leadership positions are required to attend two meetings prior to the event, and dedicate around 2 hours a week working in their area. General volunteers can spend between four and eight hours at the event, depending on their time schedules.

Q: When is the picnic?
A: The picnic is held on a Saturday in August.
